Mark Copy AI is an innovative SaaS platform that helps businesses create optimized content by leveraging AI for SEO, content analysis, and copywriting. The platform needed a redesign to improve user engagement, increase conversions, and expand its user base. The goal was to create a seamless experience for users to discover, use, and integrate various tools and templates while ensuring the platform was scalable for future growth.

Challenge

The main challenge was to increase the user base, convert users into paying customers, and reduce churn rates. The platform had great potential but struggled with slow growth, user friction, and retention issues. The goal was to create a stronger brand, improve the conversion process, and implement new features that would better meet the needs of both new and existing users.

Research
The design process was informed by user data collected through various methods, including diary studies, community surveys, and usability testing. Key findings included:

  • Brand Awareness: The platform lacked strong branding, which made it difficult to stand out in a competitive market.

  • User Friction: The requirement of a credit card for the trial period caused friction, leading to a high abandonment rate during sign-up.

  • Conversion Challenges: Many users were not engaging with the platform enough to convert to paying customers.

Solution
To address these challenges, I proposed the following solutions:

  1. Branding and User Trust:

    • Developed a new, strong brand identity for Mark Copy AI, ensuring consistency across all touchpoints, including the website, app, and marketing materials.

    • Removed the credit card requirement during the sign-up process, reducing user friction and increasing trial sign-ups by a significant margin.

  2. Improved Onboarding:

    • Designed a simplified, user-friendly onboarding process that guided users through the platform's features and recommended templates based on their needs.

    • Introduced fun elements, such as Easter eggs, to engage users during the onboarding experience.

  3. Product Tour and Feature Discovery:

    • Added a product tour to familiarize users with the platform's features. This led to a 70% completion rate of the tour, resulting in increased user engagement.

    • Integrated a "journal quest" feature where users could earn credits by completing specific tasks, such as using templates or achieving SEO scores, which incentivized continued use.

  4. Competitive Analysis and Feature Improvements:

    • Assessed competitor platforms and continuously refined the product to meet the needs of users.

    • Introduced new features, such as SEO scoring, team management, plagiarism checks, and a document management system, to improve user experience and increase product value.

  5. A/B Testing and Iteration:

    • Conducted A/B testing on various features, including copywriting, interface layouts, and task structures, to understand what worked best for users and refined the design accordingly.

Wireframes & Prototypes
Created detailed wireframes and interactive prototypes to visualize the user experience. These prototypes helped to test new features like the onboarding flow, product tour, and task-based quests, allowing for early feedback before final development.

Visual Design
The visual design focused on creating a clean, modern, and cohesive aesthetic aligned with the new brand. It prioritized usability, with clear navigation, intuitive actions, and strong visual hierarchy to help users quickly understand and use the platform's features.

Testing & Iteration
Several rounds of usability testing were conducted with target users, focusing on key features like the onboarding process, product tour, and task-based engagement. Feedback led to the following improvements:

  • Adjustments to the onboarding process to further reduce friction.

  • Enhancements to the product tour, making it more interactive and engaging.

  • Minor adjustments to the UI to improve accessibility and readability.

Final Product
The final design addressed the pain points identified in the research phase and successfully implemented a scalable solution. The platform now had an intuitive sign-up process, an engaging onboarding flow, and a product tour that led to better user engagement and higher conversion rates.

Results

  • Monthly active users increased by 15%.

  • User sign-ups surged by 30% due to the removal of the credit card requirement and the improved onboarding process.

  • Product conversions improved significantly, with a notable rise in paying customers after completing the product tour and journal quests.

  • Customer churn decreased by 10% as a result of the engaging features and continuous product improvements.
